Casting News: King Lear

Posted in Casting News, Casting Announcements, Movie News by nightfall 05/20/2008 @ 10:39 p.m.

More dueling adaptations!! Though most would think King Lear more noble than Dusty Springfield ...

Sir Ian

Sir Anthony

Anyhow, two (more) film versions of King Lear appear to be in the works. The first, due at Christmas, is the play filmed for television version with Sir Ian McKellen, who was King Lear on stage with the Royal Shakespeare Company from March 2007 through January 2008. The second, announced at Cannes , stars Sir Anthony Hopkins as Lear, Keira Knightley as Cordelia, and Gwyneth Paltrow as Regan.

If you don't like these options, or feel like waging the Sir Anthony vs Sir Ian cage match, vote here thanks to Benioff !

Casting Speculation: Playing for Pizza

Posted in Casting Speculation by nightfall 05/20/2008 @ 9:59 p.m.

John Grisham wrote a novel not about lawyers! Who knew!

Well, so that one book, Playing for Pizza, has been optioned by Phoenix Pictures for an unmentioned but undoubtedly obscene amount of money..

Third-string Cleveland Browns quarterback Rick Dockery becomes the greatest goat ever by throwing three interceptions in the closing minutes of the AFC championship game. Fleeing vengeful fans, he finds refuge in the grungiest corner of professional football, the Italian National Football League as quarterback of the inept but full-of-heart Parma Panthers. What ensues is a winsome football fable, replete with team bonding and character-building as the underdog Panthers challenge the powerhouse Bergamo Lions for a shot at the Italian Superbowl. Anyone read it and have a cast?

Casting Speculation: Flash Gordon

Posted in Casting Speculation by nightfall 05/20/2008 @ 9:49 p.m.

Flash Gordon Flash! AAAAHHHHaahhhhhhhh!

Rumor has it Columbia is trying to score the film rights to Flash Gordon. Let's pray it's better than the scifi show.

AICN requests they keep the Queen song, which I'll second. Perhaps we should make that vote-able role in the casts...

I myself always wondered why they picked a Swede to play a character named Ming. Not a lot of Swedish Mings around that I know of, but I'm not Swedish. Who knows?

Go cast it to keep it from turning in to the crapfest it is on tv. Thanks Jim who made the cast three years ago!

Next a remake of Flesh Gordon!

Update: Sony wins the bidding war!

Casting Speculation: Convoy

Posted in Casting Speculation by nightfall 05/20/2008 @ 4:24 p.m.

Convoy In a tiny blurb at the end of this article about Highlander, it says the same dudes that wrote Iron Man, Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, also wrote a remake of the based-on-a-song Sam Peckinpaw trucker classic, Convoy.

I don't know who can replace Kris Kristofferson, Ali MacGraw, and Ernest Borgnine, but we can try. All three are still alive, oddly enough, perhaps they can star again...

Let's cast it!

Oh, oh, I know, a Transformers/Convoy cross over! They can run from the law in Optimus Prime and Ironhide and Ratchet! Michael Bay can even direct!

Casting Speculation: Highlander

Highlander?!? Uhhh... okay. Sure. There can be only, what? Eight? Nine of them? Plus a tv show?

The Quickening

Well anyhow, the dudes who wrote Iron Man (you'd think they could get a better gig, but maybe they're fans) will write the "reimagining" for Summit Entertainment.

Turns out we have a cast already! Thanks to Shok_Xone_Studios back in 2005. Woo!

It appears as though Eric Bana is in the lead for Macleod with James McAvoy close behind on our cast. I rather like the idea of Gerard Butler as Macleod and Michael Clarke Duncan as The Kurgan, but Clancy Brown is The Kurgan. After Carnivale, he's proven he can still scare the pants off people.

Go vote , so we can have only one!
